1. Zot!

By: Scott McCloud

The first half of the book about a superhero from another world isn't anything groundbreaking.  The second half of the book, where said superhero becomes a background character in the lives of some ordinary teens going through ordinary teen problems is surprisingly extraordinary.

McCloud's rich understanding of the comics conventions as detailed in his brilliant non-fiction comics books (Understanding Comics, Reinventing Comics, and Making Comics) are evident throughout.   For that reason alone, its a fascinating read.

Recommendation: The second half should be required reading for comics aficionados.
